Santander UK closed or froze your business account: what its terms say

As of October 9, 2026, these are Santander UK’s own words on closing accounts: the notice it gives, the reasons it names and where a complaint can go next.

Notice before closing

If we want to close your account or end this agreement, we'll normally give you notice and explain the reasons for our decision before we do this. We'll give you 90 days' notice if your account is a payment account.

Reasons it names for closing or suspending an account

In some situations we may close your account or end this agreement immediately without telling you first. We'll only do this if we reasonably believe that: … You've misused your account. This will include, for example, if you use your account in connection with a crime or offence.

Complaints and where to go next

If you're not happy with how we deal with your complaint, you may be able to refer it to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS).
