MiCA and business accounts for crypto companies

Since MiCA, a crypto business in the EU is asked first whether it is authorised. Many business-account providers write their crypto rules around that question.

The transitional period has ended

MiCA entered into force in June 2023. Firms already providing crypto-asset services under national law before 30 December 2024 could continue, at the latest, until 1 July 2026, or until they were granted or refused authorisation. Member states could set a shorter period.

Checking a firm's authorisation

ESMA publishes a register of authorised crypto-asset service providers, updated at regular intervals, on its MiCA page. A provider asked to open an account for a crypto business may check it, and so can you before you apply.

What providers publish

Some providers take crypto businesses only with a licence and name it. Others refuse exchanges or wallets outright, and many differ by activity: exchange, custody and payments, or web3 software. The crypto industry page lists every provider in our base by its own answer, each with its quote and date.
